Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
This policy explains what information the NottsBinApp app ("the app") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the mobile app on iOS and Android.
1. Who is responsible
The app is provided by Augustine Igharo ("Notts Bins"). You can contact Notts Bins at contactxomo@gmail.com.
2. What the app does
The app shows bin collection schedules for Nottinghamshire councils (Mansfield, Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Rushcliffe, Newark & Sherwood, Nottingham City and Gedling), along with a short weather forecast and optional reminder notifications. It also lets you submit a report if a bin is missing or a collection goes wrong.
3. Information Notts Bins collects and why
- Postcode and address/UPRN. When you enter your postcode and pick your address, the app sends your postcode and address identifier (UPRN) to our server and then to your local council's website so it can look up your collection schedule. This is required for the core function of the app. The UPRN is a public property identifier.
- Report form. If you use "Report an issue", you provide your name, email address, the issue type and a description, together with the address and council details. This is sent to Notts Bins' report endpoint and stored in a private spreadsheet Notts Bins controls, used only to follow up with your council.
- Weather. To show a forecast, the app sends the general coordinates of your council area (not your location) to Open-Meteo, a weather service. The app does not use GPS or collect your precise location.
4. Information stored on your device
Your last entered postcode and address, reminder settings, and your appearance preference are stored only on your device (using local app storage). Reminder notifications are scheduled and handled on your device. Nothing here is sent to Notts Bins.
5. What Notts Bins does not collect
- No advertising or ad identifiers
- No analytics or crash reporting
- No account or profile required
- No precise location / GPS
- No contacts, photos or microphone
- No cookies
6. Service providers (processors)
To make the app work, limited information passes through the following services:
- Vercel — hosts our server that relays lookups to council websites.
- Nottinghamshire councils — receive your postcode/UPRN only for schedule lookups.
- Open-Meteo — receives council-area coordinates for weather data.
- Google Apps Script / Google Sheets — stores report form submissions you send to Notts Bins.
Notts Bins does not sell, rent, or share your personal information for marketing.
7. How long information is kept
Schedule lookups are not stored by Notts Bins. Report form submissions are stored in a private spreadsheet and retained until they are removed. Information on your device stays there until you remove the app or clear the app data.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information Notts Bins holds about you, and you may object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, contact Notts Bins at contactxomo@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
10. Changes to this policy
Notts Bins may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above will reflect changes.
